'U' Students Start Business, Sell iPod Covers

(WCCO) Minneapolis For the first time, instructors at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management are giving students the business, literally. A group of college students beat out six teams to earn the chance to develop and operate their own business, which they call "uSuits". "We were just talking about how many students actually have iPods and it’s a growing number and we're seeing it more and more and people want to protect their iPod," said one of the students, explaining how uSuits was launched. The uSuit is a silicon cover which slips over the iPod to help protect it. "It just made sense to put the university logos on the cases because that had never been done before," explained uSuits CEO and student Reed Robinson. This is the first time students at the 'U' have started their own business as a part of a class. "The goal was to give students a practical experience in what it is to actually run a business," said professor Frank Beil. "They had to go through designing the product, making the product, selling the product." In a week and a half, 30 uSuits have been sold at the University of Minnesota Bookstore, - more available
