My wife, Deborah, and I have lived in Thief River Falls for over 35 years. It has proven to be a good community in which to raise our three sons. I am running for county commissioner to ensure that our community remains a place of opportunity for generations to come. Even though I grew up on a small dairy farm near Clearbrook, my roots in this area go back to the pioneer days. My great-grandfather, John Fellman, lived in Thief River Falls and worked building bridges when the railroads came to the area. My grandfather, Bjorn Tveitbakk, homesteaded a quarter section of land in Hickory Township in 1908. After graduation from high school in 1967, I attended the University of Minnesota for two years and then moved to Thief River Falls in December of 1970, to attend the Area Vocational Technical Institute. I didn’t realize then that my stay would last for 35 years! Deborah and I met while we were attending the Area Vocational Technical Institute. She was a student in the nursing program and I was enrolled in the broadcasting program and then the industrial electronics program. We were married a year after graduation in 1974.
